A yellow X - A play about freedom

19:00 - 20:00

June 17, 1953 in Dresden: the workers protest and Wilhelm Grothaus and the functionary Otto Buchwitz confront each other at Sachsenwerke. The SED calls this day “Day X”, Grothaus - who had already been imprisoned as a resistance fighter during National Socialism - is later sentenced to 15 years in prison in a show trial.

Freedom is on everyone's lips, it is demanded, talked about, sung about - but what is it actually?

Starting with the so-called workers' uprising in the GDR, we circle around this concept in a revue-like play with puppets and people at the Bautzner Straße Dresden memorial.

A production of the projekttheater dresden. The event takes place in cooperation with the Bautzner Straße Dresden Memorial.
The project „Ein gelbes X" is supported by Landesbeauftragte zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur and co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament.
